Competing Mortality: Tyrer-Cuzick Calculation in MagView

A question was recently sent to the MagView Support Department regarding the Tyrer-Cuzick calculation of patient risk, and whether the MagView calculation considers competing mortality in the risk score when the calculation is made.

The Tyrer-Cuzick risk model can be used to calculate patient risk one of two ways, depending on whether you want to calculate risk including the possibility that someone might die from causes other than breast cancer (competing mortality) before breast cancer may otherwise be detected.

With MagView, you have the option to calculate Tyrer-Cuzick scores with or without competing mortality as a factor.  Although disabling competing mortality may be useful in certain circumstances, it is generally recommended to enable competing mortality, because this offers more accurate lifetime risk for a given patient in clinical practice.  With competing mortality enabled, risk scores are calculated to be somewhat lower.

If you would like to change the setting for competing mortality in MagView, or if you are not sure whether it is enabled, please contact the MagView Support department.
